Last night watching the Phillies play their asses off and fall short was sad, it was sad to see Howard, Utley and Victorino in the dugout after the defeat. Many people are going to point the finger at Howard for struggling at the plate or Brad Lidges meltdown in Game 4, but if I were to blame anybody for their loss it would be Cole Hamels.
At this time last year Hamels was the MVP of the World Series, he then discovered that he has female tendencies this season and it all fell a part for him. The only thing that has bothered me this entire postseason is the play and body language of Cole. He has been given plenty of run support and has failed to deliver as a Number One Starter. The bigger question is where do the Phillies go from here?
I have thought about it and I have come up with three off season moves that will be crucial for Philadelphia to get back to the World Series:
1. Give Cliff Lee and extension, Lee seems like he was destined to play in Philly from the start, he is tough and he not Hamels gives you a Number One Starter.
2. Address the Bullpen situation, whether it is Lidge, Madson or somebody else, you cannot have this issue next season. It is kind of amazing that the Phillies may have had the worst bullpen in the MLB and still were able to get back to the Series.
3. Find reliable bench players, Ben Francisco was a nice addition late in the year, but they need one or two more players. Matt Stairs appears to be done and Greg Dobbs doesn't have the same pop he use to.
I will give credit to the Yankees even though I hate them, they deserved this victory. Enjoy it now because Philly will be back next season.
That is it for now, I will be back later with THE PICKS
