Cliff Lee dominated the Nats tonight. Complete game shut out. The more I watch the Phils, the more its looking like last year. Carlos Ruiz is heating up, which is huge for this team. All the experts can talk about the Cardinals, Dodgers, and Rockies all they want, but the Phils have by far the best 1-8 of any team in the National League, the best defense (which is vastly underrated), and Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, and the old goat Pedro Martinez give the Phils as good a rotation as anyone in the league. The only thing that worries me is the back end of the bullpen (what a difference a year makes).
The magic number is 12. Phils have a 7.5 game lead over the Marlins. They are tied with the Cards with 60 losses and are a game back in the loss column of the Dodgers.
The Flyers (i know nobody cares about hockey especially now in the preseason) were picked to win the Cup by The Hockey News. The team really should be good this year, assuming Ray Emery doesn't meltdown. Say what you want about anybody else on the team, but Emery is the key to the success or failure of the team.
Well speaking of the Flyers, I worked the suites party tonight, and Steve Coates from Coatsey's Corners and the Flyers' broadcast bumped into me and then apologized. He seemed as nice as he does on TV from that small interaction and seeing him talk with other people there. Also in attendance, for anyone who cares, Ed Stefanski (seems genuinely excited about this team, I am too, but I might be the only person in the city), Jason Smith, Dave Schultz, and some other people.
